Adirondack Foundation BT3 Fund

Strategic Value

The profound impact of good care, nutrition, and education during a child’s first 1,000 days has been demonstrated repeatedly by evidence-based studies.  Babies who get off to a good start can succeed at school and careers, are happier, healthier, and more apt to be contributing members of their communities throughout life.  The Perry Preschool Project (PPP) and the Carolina Abecedarian Project (ABC) both demonstrated that early socialization and verbalization intervention can change life-long outcomes.

About the BT3 Project

There are approximately 5,000 BT3 children in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties, including the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe—the BT3 project is to make a difference to every one of them!

In 2014, Adirondack Foundation and a group of funding partners (Cloudsplitter, Chapel Hill, and the Grabe Family Foundations, and caring individuals) commissioned a study by Adirondack Research Ltd. that evaluated 21 providers and programs to identify assets and gaps. Moved by the needs revealed by the study, Adirondack Foundation convened everyone who participated in the study and other stakeholders.  The group quickly formed the BT3 Alliance to support children birth to three and their families in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.

The Adirondacks are full of organizations that we love and that are irreplaceable. Cloudsplitter will continue to evaluate and prioritize systemic threats so that we have the resources to respond now and into the future. Given the unknowns of the current funding environment, we wanted to be clear with our grant applicants that we may be less likely to fund capital projects, events, projects far outside the Adirondack park, and very large grant requests ($50K+) at this time. If you feel something within those categories deserves our attention, please contact chenelle@cloudsplitter directly prior to submitting a grant to discuss further.
