Canton Day Care Center Inc.

  • Grant name:  Canton Day Care Center Expansion
  • Project size:  $450K  Grant size: $20K (10/18)
  • Strategic value:  All children deserve the best possible start in life.  Housed in the United Helpers Maplewood Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, the Canton Day Care serves children 6 weeks to 12 years old, M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The shared location provides opportunities for intergenerational activities and offers two playgrounds for the children.  Reliable, high quality childcare attracts and retains young families to the region.  Parents are able to work and participate in the local economy.  It also fosters school readiness, which can result in higher degrees of success in school and life.  Further, this project aims to add 10 jobs to the workforce.
  • Project status: (7/19) Two pre-K classrooms were built in July to accommodate increasing demand for childcare.  Fall 2019 enrollment was the largest ever. The new classrooms, upstairs, left space downstairs for a room for infants.

The Adirondacks are full of organizations that we love and that are irreplaceable. Cloudsplitter will continue to evaluate and prioritize systemic threats so that we have the resources to respond now and into the future. Given the unknowns of the current funding environment, we wanted to be clear with our grant applicants that we may be less likely to fund capital projects, events, projects far outside the Adirondack park, and very large grant requests ($50K+) at this time. If you feel something within those categories deserves our attention, please contact chenelle@cloudsplitter directly prior to submitting a grant to discuss further.
