The Tell

Strategic Value

The Tell was founded in January 2018 by Jess Collier and Chris Morris, following two years of research and planning. It is a nonprofit, web-based journalism organization that focuses on human interest and cultural reporting in the Adirondack region that will engage a younger demographic but be of relevance to all ages.  The mission is to produce highly engaging, authentic stories about the people and culture of the Adirondack region, and to promote arts and music activities and events.  The vision is to offer a contemporary, responsive digital platform for written, audio, and video content, produced by a diverse group of journalists, artists, videographers, podcasters, photographers, and other creators who reflect the people who live and work in the Adirondacks.

In April 2018 the foundation made a $5,000 grant to kick-start this local enterprise. As of early 2020, The Tell was incorporated in New York State and is pursuing 501c3 status; the website is expected to launch in the summer of 2020.

The Adirondacks are full of organizations that we love and that are irreplaceable. Cloudsplitter will continue to evaluate and prioritize systemic threats so that we have the resources to respond now and into the future. Given the unknowns of the current funding environment, we wanted to be clear with our grant applicants that we may be less likely to fund capital projects, events, projects far outside the Adirondack park, and very large grant requests ($50K+) at this time. If you feel something within those categories deserves our attention, please contact chenelle@cloudsplitter directly prior to submitting a grant to discuss further.
